Turning displacement into self-reliance and dignity.
Refugee House is a refugee-led think tank and action hub that empowers displaced populations to lead systemic change. We create intentional pathways for refugees to influence policy, build sustainable enterprises, strengthen leadership, access justice, preserve culture, and respond to climate challenges.
The Refugee House Ecosystem
Our work is delivered through six interconnected pillars that form an integrated ecosystem for refugee-led development. By combining community-driven research with grassroots action, we transform the experience of displacement into an opportunity for self-reliance and dignity.
Research & Policy
We generate community-driven evidence, conduct ground-level research, and produce policy recommendations that inform local, national, and global discussions on displacement and structural inclusion.

Enterprise & Incubation
We support refugee entrepreneurs through tailored business incubation, mentorship, networking, and access to markets, enabling lasting economic independence and financial sustainability.

Leadership Development
We equip emerging advocates and change-makers with the tools, professional skills, and confidence needed to lead organizations, champion rights, and participate in public decision-making.

Legal Aid & Protection
We bridge the gap to justice by providing legal guidance, documentation support, community paralegal training, and rights-protection monitoring for vulnerable groups.
Culture, Heritage & Storytelling
Through our House of Culture & Heritage, we preserve diverse cultural roots and amplify authentic refugee narratives using multimedia, arts, exhibitions, and community storytelling.

Climate Action
We drive environmental resilience through green livelihoods, tree-planting initiatives, climate education, and refugee-led eco-tech innovations that protect both host and settlement lands.

Step Inside: Our Space & Community
Refugee House is fundamentally defined by its physical and digital presence, a true home for collaboration. Our flagship hub, the "Refugee House" in Mvara, Arua City, provides the platform where ideas turn into execution.
Whether you are a researcher, an entrepreneur, a student, or an ally, you are invited to activate this space. You can book dedicated workstations at our Mvara Co-Working Space, participate in live policy debates, access the business incubator tools, or share your voice in our cultural storytelling events. This is where community happens.
How We Work
Our approach is entirely refugee-led, collaborative, and evidence-driven. We work alongside refugees, host communities, government institutions, academic partners, and civil society to co-create practical solutions to displacement.
Rather than executing programs for refugees, we design and implement solutions with them. We combine capacity building, advocacy, and strategic resource partnerships to ensure that deep community knowledge translates directly into measurable, lasting impact.
What Makes Us Unique
Refugee House is more than an organization, it is a house of ‘ideas, initiatives, and impact’; a place of leadership and opportunity.
What sets us apart is our integrated model. Instead of addressing displacement challenges in isolation, we connect research, enterprise, legal rights, and climate resilience under one roof. We believe refugees are not passive beneficiaries of humanitarian aid, they are innovators, researchers, artists, and leaders. By placing the individuals closest to the challenges at the center of the solution, we create a platform where lived experience shapes policy and innovation inspires self-reliance.
