Arua City, Uganda. Refugee House is a first-of-its-kind refugee-led think tank and action hub based in West Nile, Uganda. It transforms the experience of displacement into a launchpad for self-reliance, green enterprise, and systemic policy change.
Refugee House stands on a simple, powerful truth: refugees are not passive recipients of aid, they are thinkers, builders, entrepreneurs, and leaders fully capable of shaping their own futures.
Six interconnected pillars
Its work is delivered through six interconnected pillars that form an integrated ecosystem for refugee-led development:
Research & Policy: community-driven evidence and policy recommendations.
Enterprise & Incubation: business incubation, mentorship, networking, and access to markets.
Leadership Development: tools, professional skills, and confidence for emerging advocates.
Legal Aid & Protection: legal guidance, documentation support, and paralegal training.
Culture, Heritage & Storytelling: the House of Culture & Heritage.
Climate Action: green livelihoods, tree planting, climate education, and eco-tech.
A home for collaboration
The flagship hub in Mvara, Arua City, offers digital co-working workstations, meeting rooms, business incubation mentoring, a community marketplace, and a Legal Aid Desk. Its programs are open to refugee-led organizations, refugee entrepreneurs, creatives, women, youth, and marginalized groups, as well as members of host communities.
